MDIS - MCS-DCS Interface Standardization
Introduction
The MDIS (Master Control Station (MCS) - Distributed Control System (DCS) Interface Standardisation) is an international joint oil and gas industry network group.
MDIS selected OPC UA based on several requirements:
- Information modeling capabilities
- Multi-platform support
- Redundancy and Robust Communications
- Independent Organization Support
- Independent Testing and Certification
The MDIS companion standard includes information models to represent the common pieces of subsea equipment, such as valves, choke valves, instruments and discrete IO to name a few. The companion specification includes support for two different architectures. It also defines interface an information model specific testing.
